Departure from Rome–Fiumicino Airport “Leonardo da Vinci” or from your hotel or any other agreed pick-up point, where a private chauffeur at your full disposal will be waiting to take you into central Rome for an unforgettable tour of the city’s most important and beautiful monuments. During the transfer into Rome you may stop at a service station for a coffee break, depending on the route. Beyond the glorious period of the Roman Empire, whose artistic and cultural testimony remains throughout the city and which you will admire on this tour, it is important to remember that the leading artists of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries lived in Rome, leaving their most significant works here. Chief among them, Michelangelo designed Piazza del Campidoglio and arranged for the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius, originally in the Lateran, to be placed there. The Capitoline Hill has always been the most important of Rome’s seven hills. This is where your Monuments Tour begins. To the left of the flight of steps leading to Piazza del Campidoglio you will find the steep staircase up to the Basilica of Santa Maria in Aracoeli (1348). Behind Aracoeli and the Campidoglio stands the vast monument celebrating Italian unification: the Vittoriano or Altar of the Fatherland.
