Departure from Rome–Fiumicino Airport “Leonardo da Vinci”, where a private chauffeur at your full disposal will be waiting to take you on a tour to Positano, the pearl of the Amalfi Coast, nestled on the slopes of the Lattari mountains. Its white houses cling to the cliff overlooking the sea; the town’s characterful narrow alleys, arcades and steep steps, its boutiques and beaches make Positano an essential destination. On the drive along the A3 Salerno–Reggio Calabria motorway there will be two stops for coffee at service stations. Praised by poets and writers and immortalised by painters worldwide, Positano today is one of the best-known towns on the Amalfi Coast. In the 1950s the famous “Positano style” was born here and helped make the town internationally renowned. In the local boutiques you can buy the original, colourful and finely decorated camicioni—light cotton shirts perfect for the beach or seaside resorts. In Piazza Flavio Gioia, named for the Positanian mariner and mathematician traditionally associated with the compass, stands the Church of Santa Maria dell’Assunta, dominated by a splendid majolica-tiled dome. The building owes its origin to the presence of an ancient local community and its maritime traditions.
