Departure from Rome–Fiumicino Airport “Leonardo da Vinci”, where a private chauffeur at your full disposal will be ready to take you on a tour to Sorrento, a Campanian town famed for the scenic beauty of its azure sea and dark sands. During the journey along the A3 Salerno–Reggio Calabria motorway there will be two stops for coffee at service stations. Sorrento stands on a tuff ridge that drops to the sea at a height of about 50 metres. The beaches are formed of characteristic dark sand, born of the erosion of the volcanic rock that makes up the promontory. From here you enjoy splendid views of Capri, Ischia and the Gulf of Naples, dominated by Mount Vesuvius. The Sorrentine Peninsula, for its beauty, has long been the favoured residence of poets, artists and thinkers such as Goethe, Lord Byron, Dickens, Ibsen and Wagner. It is also the birthplace of Torquato Tasso, born in Sorrento in 1544. Piazza Tasso, dedicated to the poet, is one of the town’s most attractive squares. On the square stands the beautiful Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, dating from the later sixteenth century; its interior is richly decorated with stuccoes and inlays.
